Alta Via 1 (Guided) - The Alta Via 1 hut-to-hut trail, with a leader
Dolomites Highlights (Guided) - A shorter 6-stage guided trip
The Alta Via 9, also known as 'la Trasversale', is the only one of the famous Alta Via routes in the Dolomites to cross this region of Northern Italy from West to East (rather than North to South). Starting from the mountains above Bolzano, the regional capital, hike across the Dolomites from the Rosengarten group in the West to the iconic Tre Cime di Lavaredo in the East, passing famous sites such as the Sella massif, Marmolada, Passo Falzarego and Lago di Misurina on the way. Take in awe-inspiring views of the dramatic, rocky peaks of the Dolomites as you soak up the best of Italy's Südtirol.
The Alta Via 9 takes in a huge variety of scenery and terrain across 11 days of walking, passing through high Alpine meadows, climbing over rocky mountain passes and traversing below dramatic cliff faces. Underfoot, you'll encounter narrow rocky mountain paths, steep ascents and descents, well-maintained tracks across Alpine meadows, and meandering valleys. Along the way you'll enjoy the hospitality typical of the Südtirol region, staying in beautiful mountain resorts, welcoming hotels, and cosy mountain huts.
As part of a guided trip, you will have the company of our exceptional International Mountain Leaders (IML), walking in a group of up to 8 participants. These fully qualified leaders will ensure you can relax and enjoy the walking whilst benefitting from their expertise. With extensive experience in leading groups on the hills, our guides create an engaging and adventurous journey for every participant. Feel free to reach out for more information.

Where we stay
The accommodation on our Alta Via 9 is of a high standard, with delicious buffet breakfasts included every morning. Our scheduled guided trips follow our 'classic' accommodation itinerary, staying in a mixture of friendly hotels and 5 welcoming mountain huts.
Dormitories at the huts
Dormitory accommodation is the norm at huts across the Alps, and we book shared rooms with other members of your guided group as standard on our Alta Via 9 trips. We'll always book the smallest shared rooms available on your dates.
Single Room Supplement
If you would like to stay in single occupancy rooms in the hotels we add our single room supplement. This covers the additional cost of booking rooms for 1 person (rather than sharing twin, double or triple rooms). This is possible on 8 nights on our normal 13-night itinerary.
