Contacting us from your trip?
When our trips are running we are on call from 8am to 8pm in the UK (9am to 9pm in the Alps). Please email or call us in the normal ways. Often email is best, to info@alpineexploratory.com or to your contact person. Please see the Key Notes in your folder for further details. Thank you.
Our office in Edinburgh
We are a small team working in our office in Edinburgh, UK. We moved to Edinburgh in 2015 from Settle in the Yorkshire Dales, where latterly we had a shop on the market place.
How to reach us
We are a 10-minute walk from Edinburgh's main station, Waverley. There are direct trains from London King's Cross, Glasgow (Central and Queen Street) and Manchester Piccadilly. Walk West along Princes Street, take the second right up Hanover Street and then, at the top of the hill, go Left on George Street. Find us at number 63A near the corner with Frederick Street.
If coming from Edinburgh airport, take the airport express bus 100 to its Princes Street stop and walk up to George Street. Or, take the tram to Princes Street. Edinburgh has direct flights from the US, Canada, other UK cities and the whole of Europe.
Local walking
The West Highland Way start town, Milngavie, is a direct train ride from Edinburgh Waverley station. While Glasgow and its airport are generally easier for the West coast of Scotland including both the West Highland Way and the Affric Kintail Way too, please do use Edinburgh before your trip. If you fancy calling in to say hello, please let us know and we'll give you tea or coffee!
Outdoor equipment
Edinburgh is a decent place to buy outdoor gear. A block from the Alpine Exploratory office is a branch of Cotswold Outdoors, a chain of gear shops in the UK. We have a discount with Cotswold; the code comes in your info pack. Also on Rose Street is Tiso over 4 floors, and around the corner on Frederick Street is The North Face.
