A short section of chains protects the path on Stage 7.



Val d'Isere in the valley below, from the Col de l'Iseran direction. Val is a prominent town on the route of the Vanoise, and a nice stop with hotels and restaurants. We see Val here, of course, in Summer conditions whereas many visitors will know it amid snow slopes.

View back from Col de Chavière before the final descent to Modane. We have taken to starting and finishing our circuits of the Vanoise at Modane. Modane is readily reached by train from Geneva, or also Grenoble and Lyon.
