Suze Connolly was joined by her friend Nate Wright to walk the AV1. This was our recce before the 2016 season. Suze and Nate dug out a lot of useful intelligence in Cortina and up and down the route.

At Lago di Braies, the start of the AV1.

Suze looks out over the karst landscape, and Rifugio Biella.

The long view ahead to Monte Pelmo.

Cows graze around a signpost...

... near the Sennes hut.

A chapel with shingle roof.

At Lagazuoi, the view down to the Passo Falzarego.

Cables of the Lagazuoi cable car.

A viewpoint just above the Rifugio Lagazuoi.

Cloud obscures the Cinque Torri above Cortina...

... and again with visibility and a touch of snow. Shame it covers the signposts!

Cliffs and skies above Cortina.

A lift for goods.

Sunset on Monte Pelmo.

Scree slopes: the AV1 crosses some loose ground in wild settings, as is the nature of walking in the Dolomites.

Waymarks can be hard to spot, as in these occasional red dots on rocks.

Spot the marmot!

Thanks Suze and Nate!
