At the start of our 2010 season on the Tour du Mont Blanc, brother and sister Tracy and Donnarae Aiello joined us from the US for the Tour du Mont Blanc. As with most fortnights in high summer, a mixture of hot sunshine and heavy clouds was the backdrop to their trek!

Here are Donnarae and Tracy on the trail, during the day to Courmayeur.

At the beginning of the trek, a high variant crosses the Torrent de Bionnassay on a rope bridge.

Trekking to Col de la Croix du Bonhomme; in early summer 2010, much snow remained. By contrast, at the start of the 2011 season there was none.

Climbing to Col de la Seigne and the start of the Italian stages!

Bouquetin, so agile, play on crags.

On the way to Rifugio Bonatti is this long view back down the Italian Val Ferret, then further into the Val Veni, roughly the route of the previous two stages.

Neat beds ready to be used. TMB trekkers need bring only a sheet liner (or 'sleep sack') to the huts; duvets and blankets are provided.

Trekkers contemplating the wall of mountains which (unseen to the right) also contains Grand Col Ferret which is our route into Switzerland.

Now in the Swiss Alps, at the Alp of Bovine we see the flat Rhone valley far below to the left. That is the Sion and Sierre area and beyond are the mountains of the Bernese Oberland.

A Marbled Ringlet butterfly (Erebia montana) rests on Devil's-bit Scabious (Succisa pratensis).

In Argentiere, a floral house with a plaque to mountaineer Michel Croz who died in Whymper's party during the first ascent of the Matterhorn in 1865.

A paraglider high above the Mont Blanc massif.

Tracy on the trail, with Mont Blanc ahead but in cloud.

A longer view, on the TMB as it traverses the Aiguilles Rouges above Chamonix.

Tartiflette, a classic dish of this Haute Savoie region of France.

Here is a view above the Mer de Glace into the heart of the Mont Blanc massif.

Well done Donnarae and Tracy on a fine TMB!
