Alpine Exploratory's Simon Stevens visited Bohinj in the Julian Alps of Slovenia, to explore a different ending to our Hut-to-hut trek in the area. After this, Simon looked at new routes into the hills from the North of the Julian Alps, at Kranjska Gora.

An early cable car up to Vogel, from misty Lake Bohinj.

At the top station... cool temperatures!

Looking in reverse at our new route.. off the pistes and into the hills.

A snow patch below the key col, Konjsko Sedlo.

Back at the Vogel bottom station, near Ukanc.

Geraniums at a bus stop.

The next day, Rudnica looming above Stara Fuzina.

Slightly unlikely-looking trains call at Bohinjska Bistrica for the route to Jesenice and the bus to Kranjska Gora.

Walking South from Kranjska Gora the hills begin, with few breaches in these cliffs.

Low meadows...

... with barns.

Soup - jota - at one hut that will be on our new route.. to be announced!

Red metal signposts are characteristic of the region.

A typical hut interior.

Lower down the hillside.. exploring route options.

Back at Kranjska Gora the way into the hills isn't immediately clear, past nicely positioned holiday homes.

Ljubljana's large train station.

Ljubljana has a young feel, reflected in its coffee shops.

At Ljubljana Airport.

Lake Bohinj and later the snow-capped Julian Alps are visible from the flight back to the UK.

Back to Slovenia soon!
