Bookings are closed for 2016 but we announce our 2017 details on 3 October. Please ask us any time. Thanks!

The Tour du Val d'Anniviers is a four-stage circular trek, above this particularly extensive and charming Swiss valley. In the South of Switzerland, the Valais region (Valais meaning valleys) runs to the Italian border. Val d'Anniviers is a valley with several strands, each hosting villages dotted with old wooden barns.

We link up these pleasant villages, starting and finishing in Zinal in its high glacial setting. We plan this trek as an introduction to the Alps at a manageable level, so that footpaths are solid if rocky in places, and days are not too long.

Trek in the company of a fully qualified International Mountain Leader (IML). We move through the mountains on a flexible route that can be set according to the group's energy levels.

Where we stay
The group stays in our super hotels in Zinal, St Luc and Grimentz, plus one night at a hotel high on the mountainside. We stay in private double, twin, triple or single rooms as fits the group.

Why Alpine Exploratory for your guided trek?

Expert knowledge of the route
The same careful research that goes into our self-guided trips informs our guided trips too. Your leader might also have led our recce to the area. We keep on top of changes to the routes and we love keeping up to date with our hoteliers.

Flexible, personal planning
As per our general ethos, even on our scheduled guided trips we like to be flexible. Single rooms are no problem. If you'd like extra nights in Zinal, or different accommodation to the main group, please just ask us.

Small groups expertly led
Alpine Exploratory follows best practice in the mountains. Our leaders are all International Mountain Leaders and we keep to a maximum group size of 8 clients. The aim is a small, tightly knit group with an engaging leader, exploring the Val d'Anniviers with safety, proficiency and fun.

About us - more about what makes us tick

Path gradings in Switzerland

We must note for 2016 that Swiss local authorities are giving paths a grading; we don't expect any changes to the TMB paths in Switzlerand, but in case any are given a nominal grade that is illegal for an IML to work on, we will change the route so as to minimie disruption but to let your IML lead the group.

Baggage transfer

On this guided trek, everyone can opt for baggage transfer or not as they choose. The service gives drops at all stops except the one night in the mountains. Here, your bag goes ahead to the next hotel and you carry simple overnight gear. It's good to have the choice; some of our trekkers like baggage transfer and others prefer not. There is not too much to carry on this short route - please ask us for more info.

Options (for private trips)

If you join us as a private group instead of joining our scheduled treks, then we can adjust your Tour in various ways.

+ Add stages of the more difficult Walker's Haute Route
+ Move across to Arolla in Val d'Herens for extra days
+ Be based in one village for daywalks instead of moving on
+ Favour auberges or huts or up the comfort with our best hotels

Of course, on a private trip you can come on the dates that suit you. Except for the composition of the group and the dates, everything else is the same as on our scheduled treks.
