We cross the Julian Alps of Slovenia, linking the two key walker's resorts of Kranjska Gora in the North, with Bohinj in the South.

Our route starts with a climb to the Vrsic pass, then a descent through the Trenta valley and the famously green Soca river. We enter the high mountains at the Dolicu mountain hut, perched in its col with views to hills beyond. Walking down the Triglav Lakes Valley brings us to the hut at the foot, and a final descent through forests to Lake Bohinj.

We start with two easier days, before reaching the high mountains for 2 consecutive hut nights.

Mountain huts provide the group's accommodation for 3 nights; we also stay in one auberge in the small village of Trenta, plus comfy family-run hotels in Kranjska Gora and Bohinj.

Why Alpine Exploratory for your guided trip?

Expert knowledge of the routes
The same careful research that goes into our self-guided Julian Alps trips informs our guided trips too. We keep on top of changes to the local routes and we place a lot of emphasis on good relations with our hotels and huts. Friendly welcomes await.

Flexible, personal planning
As per our general ethos, even on our scheduled guided Julian Alps trips we like to be flexible. Single rooms are no problem in your valley hotel. If you'd like extra nights in Bohinj before or after the trek, please just ask us.

Small groups expertly led
Alpine Exploratory follows best practice in the mountains. Our leaders are all International Mountain Leaders and we keep to a maximum group size of 8 clients. The aim is a small, tightly knit group with an engaging leader, completing the local walks with safety, proficiency and fun.

About us - more about what makes us tick

Baggage transfer

On our Julian Alps Traverse, we offer a baggage service to your auberge and to the final hotel in Bohinj, but not on the 3 nights in huts. However, the service is not essential, because there is not too much to carry. We seek a simple trekking lifestyle! Also, we offer a direct baggage delivery to Bohinj.

Options (for private trips)

If you join us as a private group instead of joining our scheduled trips, then we can adjust your trip in various ways.

+ Spend more time in huts for longer in the mountains
+ Shorten the trip to a walking-packed long weekend
+ Favour auberges or private rooms which we know in Bohinj
+ Stick to harder or easier walks for the mix that suits your group

Of course, on a private trip you can come on the dates that suit you. Except for the composition of the group and the dates, everything else is the same as on our scheduled trips.
