Latest news April 2012
We are thrilled to introduce our Dolomites trips for 2012. Please ask about our 2012 season which starts on 1 July. Thank you. For 2012 we are offering 5 scheduled guided trips as well as our private guided trips throughout the season.

The Dolomites are a mountain range in the Italian Alps, North of Venice and just South of the Austrian border. We explore the huge walking potential, setting for daywalks from our comfy bases.

Our first base is Cortina, very much an Italian mountain resort famed for its skiing and lively in summer too. We then move across the Passo Falzarego to the brightly coloured Corvara. Here is a Germanic influence and indeed a local language, Ladin.

The Dolomites are known for via ferrata routes, literally iron way, which are climbs protected by fixed chains, pegs and ladders. We avoid the via ferrata and stick to pure walking routes, at a medium level of difficulty. Your leader takes the group into the mountains for the unbeatable scenery, but we stick to typical Alpine walking paths for walks taking typically half a day.

Where we stay
Your accommodation is in our super hotels in both Cortina and Corvara. Enjoy the friendly welcomes and superb food of the Italian Alps.

Why Alpine Exploratory for your guided trip?

Expert knowledge of the routes
We place particular emphasis on interpretation of the difficulties of the path. Our leaders understand how different walkers approach different challenges, and how much the group will enjoy each route. Our research in the Dolomites informs our choice from the many local routes.

Flexible, personal planning
As per our general ethos, even on our scheduled guided trips we like to be flexible. Single rooms are no problem. If you'd like extra nights, please just ask us.

Small groups expertly led
Alpine Exploratory follows best practice in the mountains. Our leaders are all International Mountain Leaders and we keep to a maximum group size of 8 clients. The aim is a small, tightly knit group with an engaging leader, exploring the Dolomites with safety, proficiency and fun.

Options (for private trips)

If you join us as a private group instead of joining our scheduled trips, then we can adjust your Dolomites trip in various ways.

+ Stay in Dobbiaco to see another aspect of the region
+ Shorten the trip to perhaps a long weekend, or make it 10 days
+ Walk harder routes including the classic Giro di Monte Pelmo
+ Make it basic by staying in simpler hotels

Of course, on a private trip you can come on the dates that suit you. Except for the composition of the group and the dates, everything else is the same as on our self-guided trips.
