Lake District exploration

posted by Alpine Exploratory on Thursday, 19 February 2009

Here are photos from a recent series of walks in the Lake District, as part of our research into routes both new and current. In particular these are scenes from our South Lakes Circuit route, a gentle 4-day trek from Ambleside. The cold and grey weather will be gone before long... Spring is not far away.

New trip to the Lake District

posted by Simon Stevens at Alpine Exploratory on Friday, 28 November 2008

We have introduced a new trip for 2009, to the Lake District in England. The intention is to give first-timers to the area a thorough introduction to the region and to give old hands a trip full of experiences different to the usual.

This is one of our most flexible trips. We suggest a schedule that takes in various parts of the Lakes over one week, but this is nothing more than a suggestion... we aim to discuss with clients what they'd like to do, then plan an itinerary just for them. Please see the new trip page for full details:

Miss Potter

posted by Alpine Exploratory on Friday, 18 January 2008

The movie Miss Potter, about the life of famous children's author Beatrix Potter, came out in January 2007. Beatrix Potter is well known for having lived in the Lake District and the film was shot at various locations in the area, particularly in the South around Hawkshead, Yewdale, Windermere and other places. If seeing the film has made you keen to visit the Lakes, you'll find the region geared up to welcome you! UK Exploratory can also help out.

A number of our self-guided walking holidays in the Lake District happen to pass filming locations and by taking the odd detour you can see the full range of locations.

South Lakes Circuit - hike a 4-day circuit with nights in Hawkshead, Coniston and Great Langdale
North Lakes Circuit - make a spectacular circuit of the North Lakes in 4 days from Keswick
Lake District Explorer - a full exploration of the Lake District across two or more bases

Beatrix Potter lived from 1866 to 1943. As well as her series of books, the first of which was 'The Tale of Peter Rabbit', she is known for a great interest in conservation. This led her to acquire over 4,000 acres of land, including 14 farms, in order to preserve its natural beauty. She left this land to the National Trust; it is frequent to come across sections of it as you walk through the South Lakes.
